Arkansas license in Audiology
A certificate of clinical competence in audiology preferred
Certification as a Special Education Hearing Specialist or Speech Language Pathologist/Speech Therapist preferred
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
JOB GOALS: To screen, identify, assess, diagnose and rehabilitate peripheral and central auditory dysfunction in students so that they may derive full benefit from their educational program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend special education referral conferences on students who have failed the second hearing screening and is determined by the referral committee to be in need of audiological, educational, and speech/language testing.
Provide technical assistance in planning educational, speech language, and audiological goals for any student classified as Hearing Impaired.
Select, and fit assistive listening devices and hearing aids according to standards mandated by the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, the Food and Drug Administration and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Select and dispense assistive listening devices which are appropriate to meet the individual needs of identified students.
Maintain assistive listening devices through regularly scheduled check and calibration of equipment following mandates of The American National Standards Institute.
Provide impedance testing and audiological testing for students in Life Skills classes and difficult to test students.
Provide air and bone conduction pure-tone audiometry annually to hearing impaired students to monitor hearing loss and to new referrals to document loss.
Provide collaborative consultation with teachers and support personnel of students with documented hearing loss.
Maintain written records of students testing in Arkansas Department of Health's mandated hearing screening program.
Conduct listening assessments and provide listening therapy.
Meet consistently and regularly with applicable teachers.
Obtain consent and bill for Medicaid Reimbursement for applicable services.
Attend approved in district and out of district professional development.
Provide deaf education services if meets Arkansas licensure requirements qualifications as a Certified Special Education Hearing Specialist, as needed.
Provide and perform duties related to a speech therapist or speech/language pathologist if meets Arkansas licensure requirements, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
