Description: NPC is currently hiring for a Librarian. This is a non-classified exempt position.
Duties:
Training, supervising, scheduling, managing library student workers, directing their work, and ensuring the work of the library (shelving, shelf reading, inventory, etc.) is completed during their shifts.
Staffing the Front Desk along with student workers, assisting Library patrons with circulation activities such as checking items in and out and using library technology, answering the front desk phone, responding to the library's general email, CHAT, and directing scheduled student workers.
Providing directional and informational assistance and simple reference assistance to users, requiring a general knowledge of the library's physical facility, organization, collections, and policies.
Overseeing course reserve materials and processing.
Staying current with library circulation technology and trends and recommending best practices for library staff in these areas.
Compiling statistics and submitting reports to the Library Director.
Secondary Duties:
Working with Librarians to fulfill interlibrary loan requests and resource-sharing requests using OCLC ILL.
Scheduling library rooms.
Supervises student workers.
Qualifications: Experience Preferred for Position:
Two (2) years of customer service.
Minimum one (1) year experience supervising.
Basic computer skills (including MS Office, Google, and Teams).
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to supervise, manage, and direct student employees.
Ability to interact professionally with people from various educational and vocational backgrounds (e.g. faculty, students, staff, alumni, public).
Ability to work well as a member of a team.
Ability to exercise sound judgment implementing library procedures and policies.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize, demonstrating good time management skills and working with frequent interruption.
Experience/Skills/Characteristics Preferred:
Knowledge of, or experience with, library management software or integrated library systems.
Academic library or educational work history experience.
Technical abilities, or curiosity and desire to learn and use technology more; this position needs to provide troubleshooting for printer/copier.
This position reports to the Library Director.
Education Required: Master's Degree in Library Science or Library Information prior to the start date.
