SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
National Park College seeks a Controller to ensure that core financial processes are maintained and to promote the highest standards of customer service. The Controller, reporting directly to the VP for Administration, manages all aspects of the college’s accounting functions, maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that college assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with NPC policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains accurate, detailed accounting records
- Oversees the college’s fiscal-related activities, including grants accounting, asset accounting, cash management, payroll, annual financial reporting, and audit preparation
- Develops and monitors internal controls for fraud, errors, and omissions within cash accounts, accounts payable, and investments
- Proposes and implements modifications to existing accounting policies and procedures where there is an opportunity for efficiency or improved decision support; ensures that current practices meet the evolving needs of the College
- Coordinates the flow of financial data through automated systems or other means, culminating in an accurate general ledger and monthly/annual financial statements prepared on a timely basis in accordance with GAAP/GASB
- Inputs and monitors the budget for the controller’s and other related cost centers
- Directs the college’s banking arrangements, liquidity position, and invests surplus funds
- Reviews financial statements, Board agenda reports, and management information reports
- Maintains professional standards and affiliations within the department to keep current in trends, regulations, and changes in the accounting field
- Provides consultation and analysis to the VP for Finance and Administration on a wide range of fiscal and operational issues
- Assists VP for Finance and Administration with special financing projects and bond issues
- Serves as primary liaison to the external audit team, responding to information requests and ensuring timely and accurate completion of all audit schedules and plans the response to audit reports

Required skills/abilities:
- Skilled in automated accounting and reporting systems, preferably PeopleSoft Financials or similar
- Knowledge of governmental and fund accounting
- Exceptional oral, listening and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and interact effectively with employees and students
- Significant supervisory/management experience
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Education and Experience:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with over five (5) years of progressively responsible full-time experience in college finance.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA certification. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
