Job Summary/Scope
The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and leading programs and activities to promote organ and tissue donor registration and education, and to increase the number of Arkansans, especially Hispanic Arkansans, in the Arkansas donor registry. The Communications Specialist-Bilingual must create an education strategy for delivering the donor message, thereby maximizing public awareness of organ and tissue donation. The Communications Specialist-Bilingual must also deliver accurate donor awareness information to encourage Arkansans to register as organ, tissue and eye donors. The Communications Specialist-Bilingual Must be capable of working with a high degree of autonomy, developing and monitoring own work schedule and carrying out program plans with limited to no direct supervision.
Essential Functions
- Provide to Arkansans-in both English and Spanish--accurate information regarding organ, tissue and eye donation and to encourage them to register as organ, tissue and eye donors either through the online donor registry, State Department of Motor Vehicles Office or other legally acceptable means.
- Develop ongoing education programs to increase public awareness and education about organ and tissue donation, and donor registration, especially in Hispanic communities.
- Establishing relationships with organizations, including educational, religious, community and civic institutions and organizations to provide donor education programs, especially in Hispanic communities.
- Scheduling and facilitating programs and activities to promote organ and tissue donor education and registration, especially in Hispanic communities.

Potential Risk Factors:
- Risk Exposure to Blood/Body Fluids: While performing some essential functions of your position, you may be exposed to blood or body fluids. Established procedures identify the appropriate personal protective measures that you should use when performing essential functions of your position. The ARORA Safety program will provide you with the appropriate procedures and guidelines in which you should perform the essential duties of your job. - Repetitive Motion: While performing some essential functions of your position, you may be required to perform some functions repeatedly. When such tasks are not performed properly, injury can result.
- Minimum Weight Lifting Requirement: While performing some essential functions of your position, you may be required to do some lifting, moving, pushing, or pulling. When such tasks are not performed properly, injury can result. Established procedures identify the precautions and/or equipment that should be used when performing this task. Must have the ability to lift minimum weight of 25 lbs.
- Prolonged Sitting, Standing, and Bending: While performing some essential functions of your position, you may be required to sit, stand, or bend for an extended period of time. When such tasks are not performed properly, injury can result. Established procedures identify the precautions and/or equipment that should be used when performing this task.
- Competency Evaluation: Competency evaluations are required for this position. Your supervisor will notify you when your evaluation is to be conducted.
- Training: You may need additional training to better understand the performance requirements of your essential job functions. Training classes are available and can be requested and/or assigned. Your attendance at such classes is mandatory.
Work Environment
- Required to travel by personal vehicle to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position. This includes some overnight travel.
- May require travel by commercial or charted aircraft.

Work Hours
Full-Time: Forty-hour workweek with occasional weekends, holidays, or evenings.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Must be bilingual—fluent in English and Spanish.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations, or,
Minimum experience-3-5 years in an education/communications-related position.
- Proven proficiency in public speaking before a variety of audiences.
- Ability to provide clear and concise interviews with media outlets.
- Ability to work irregular hours, travel overnight, using own vehicle for this purpose.
- Consistent demonstration of attention to detail, precision, accuracy and customer satisfaction; with low error rates are critical.
- Possess strong prioritization skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks.
- Excellent problem solving, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills (i.e. has the ability to make decisions based on situational circumstance, company policy and customer relations).
- Ability to utilize general office equipment and software and must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
